Sent Into the World
One of the greatest prayers recorded in the bible is the prayer of Jesus when He was praying for his disciples & those that would later become His disciples.
In v. 15, Jesus did not pray that the disciples would be taken out of the world
(from this earth ), but rather, that they would be protected from the enemy.
In v. 18, we are reminded once again that Jesus actually sent His disciples into the world. Why? To proclaim the gospel of the death, burial, & resurrection.
Jesus sent the disciples into the world to be salt & to be light.
Salt to change their surroundings!
Light to shine in the darkness of sin!
As disciples of Jesus Christ in the 21st century Apostolic church, we too have been sent into the world!
We are in this world & we are here in this world for a purpose!
To be salt! To be light! To be witnesses! To be intercessors!
To teach! To baptize! To make new disciples!
We are in this world, but we are not of this world.
We don’t look like, dress like, act like, think like, talk like, walk like, live like, pray like, worship like, believe like everybody else in this world!
John 15:19 – “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own, but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”
II Cor. 6:17 – “Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate …”
Yes, God wants His people to be separated – but not isolated – from the world!
Jesus has sent you into the world to reach people in the world!
Jesus went to the shores of Galilee to reach James, John, Peter, Andrew.
Jesus went to a well in Samaria to reach just one woman.
Jesus went to Capernaum to reach the centurion.
Jesus went to the country of the Gadarenes to reach the man possessed with the legion of devils.
Jesus went to the borders of Tyre & Sidon to reach the Syrophenician woman. As our example – Jesus went! Now, as our Lord & Master – Jesus sent!
When was the last time you went to a person to witness to them?
How often do you do that? Is that a part of your lifestyle?
read Luke 14:16-23
This man sent his servants out three different times to get people to go to the feast that he had prepared!
This man’s feast was nothing compared to the feast that our God serves us!
Ps. 23:5 – “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies, Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over.”
Aren’t you glad that every time you come to the House of God that He feeds you the Bread of life, & He feeds you spiritually?
Aren’t you glad that every time you come to the House of God He anoints your head with the oil of the Holy Ghost?
Aren’t you glad that every time you come to the House of God He blesses you until your cup begins to run over?
The blessings of God are plenteous! We need to find people to share them with!
How many times did this man send out his servants to invite guest?
Was it 3 times in one day? Was it 3 times in one week? I don’t know for sure.
Personally, I believe it was 3 times in one day.
If we have a better feast to invite people to than these servants did, why can’t we go out just 3 times a week & invite people to this feast?
Would you dare make a commitment to God that you would personally invite people to His feast at least 3 times every week?
Or are you satisfied to just have your little cup running over?
Remember the prayers of Jesus!
– “Don’t take them out of the world! Don’t let them be isolated & cut off from people in the world that need me! Just protect them from evil!”
– “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few. Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”
Will you be an obedient servant & go where your master has sent you?

18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
19 And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley and found there a well of springing water.
20 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
21 And they digged another well and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well, and for that, they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now, the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
I. Living in the desert, you will perish without wells.
A. When a well was dug and water was available, it was a time of celebration.
16 And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
17 Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
18 The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves.
B. Wells in the wilderness were used to keep people and animals alive.

D. Wells were landmarks and valued possessions.
E. Wells were also considered tangible evidence of God’s divine blessings.
II. It was common practice amongst rival herdsmen to fill up the wells of other their enemies.
A. This practice was normally caused by jealousy.
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
15 For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them and filled them with the earth.
16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.
B. Let’s look at the previous scriptures before our reading:
C. As Isaac grew in possessions, he re-dug the wells Abraham dug.
D. In doing so, the Philistines began envying him.
E. This envy, or jealousy, caused them to fill up the wells.
F. This represented the stoppage of God’s blessings.
G. This was the ultimate insult against a man who had many reasons to celebrate.
1. Remember, wells were a cause of celebration, as well as a source of survival.
H. Isaac moves to the valley of Gerar.
I. Here, he encounters more wells his father, Abraham, dug and were filled in.
J. Isaac proceeded to re-dig the wells.
1. He worked for a reason to celebrate.
2. He tirelessly toiled for the refreshing springs of wells.
K. The first well re-dug in this valley was filled back up by jealous herdsmen.

3. Isaac called this stopped up, filled up well, Esek.
a. This name means; contention.
4. Because these men were driven by contentious emotions, they destroyed a place of celebration and life.
L. Isaac moved along to another place and re-dug another well.
1. The jealous, contentious herdsmen strove for this well too.
2. They threw dirt in the well, causing it to cease producing the life-giving water.
3. Isaac called that well, sitnah.
a. This name means strife.
4. Contention and strife will always try to stop the blessings of God.

c. At last here is room to enjoy the blessings of God.
d. Now we have room for life.
N. Every time someone tried to stop the blessings of God in Isaacs life, it was caused by jealousy, contention, strife.
O. Isaac never rose to the occasion.
P. He never had to defend himself.
Q. He just kept looking for a place to celebrate and be blessed.
III. Jesus spoke of another well.
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
A. The Holy Ghost is a well of living water.
B. This well needs to spring up. This well ought to bubbling and unstoppable.

G. We need to be like Isaac…
1. We will just move over and look for a reason to celebrate.
2. We will not respond in like manner but pursue the blessings of God.
3. We will dig for an experience that provides life.
17 Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well.
H. I want to sing the song of Israel in the wilderness:
I. Don’t let your song be, “Fill up oh well”.
J. Let your song be, “Spring up oh well”!
GET UP AND KEEP GOING!
Do you know who holds the NFL record for rushing yards in a career? He played for the Dallas Cowboys and carried the ball for 14 seasons in the NFL. Emmitt Smith rushed for 18, 355 yards. You know how he did it? He did it 4.3 yards at a time. Yep, he ran 4.3 yards and was tackled. Over and over again. He did it by getting up and going again.
That’s what I want to encourage all of you to do in life. Just keep getting up and going again. You will have hard days when you get tackled by circumstances. You will have days you stumble and fall and drop the ball. But…just get up and go again.
How many times have we all quit something because we got discouraged? Or somebody criticized us? Or we messed up? Or we were afraid?
TEXT: Gal. 6:9 tells us “Do not be weary in well doing for in due season you will reap if you do not quit.”
You see, the Bible teaches us that if don’t quit, we won’t fail.
Consider these facts:
*During its first year, Coca-Cola only sold 400 bottles of coke. Now they are everywhere all over the earth. You could find Coke in some places in the World you couldn’t find water.
*NBA basketballer Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team.
He didn’t quit. He kept trying and is now considered the greatest player in the history of basketball.
Listen to what Michael Jordan said one time: “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” ~ Michael Jordan
*Babe Ruth held the record for the most strikeouts. He went on to also hold the record for the most home runs. Why? Because he kept swinging.
BIBLE EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE WHO DID NOT QUIT:
In the life of most any leader, you can think of, there is usually an occasion when it looked like it was over and they were greatly tempted to give up.
-Moses fled from Egypt thinking his life was over, but really it had just begun. He was willing to try again and God sent him back to deliver His people from Pharoah.
-David was not willing to quit even in the face of a giant named Goliath and look what happened.
-Elijah once prayed to die. But after God refreshed him, he got up and went and found his successor and anointed another king.
-Peter thought it was over after he denied Christ. But he was willing to get up and go again and God used him to preach the first sermon at Pentecost.
-Jesus did not stop till he said: “It is finished!”
You can keep getting up and going again too!
Did you know that there was a man who kept trying when others would have quit. Had he given up, our nation would be a much different place today.
Listen to his personal history

That’s the record of Abraham Lincoln. What would the USA look like today if Abraham Lincoln had given up early on? He stepped into his destiny by getting up and going again.
If you’re discouraged, I encourage you “Don’t give up!”
Luke 1:37 – For nothing will be impossible with God!
The last thing I’ll tell you is this- “Just be like a postage stamp. Stick in there till you get to where you are going.”
